Character Playby: Clément Chabernaud Character Information Name: Julian Larochelle Age: 19 Sexual Orientation: Publicly straight, privately bisexual. Homeland: He'd probably say Quebec, but the UN would say Canada. Clothes: He's wearing a ratty old Montreal Canadiens hockey jersey, with Roy on the back. It was built to go over hockey pads, so it hangs loosely on his thin frame and makes him almost look like a little kid wearing dress-up. Underneath it, he is wearing a black turtleneck. Over that, he's wearing a heavy leather jacket which belonged to his grandfather. The black leather is smooth and comfortable, keeping him warm against the chill. His jeans are also old and light-washed, with a rip in the knee. The only shiny-new thing he's wearing are his skates – perfectly fitting, and perfectly sharp. Underneath everything, he's wearing a medallion of St Christopher, the patron saint of travelers. Likes: hockey, cooking, large groups of family, loud punk music, cigarettes Dislikes: spiders, vegetarians, standing still, heat, his car Positive characteristics: friendly, energetic, creative, athletic, sensitive. Negative characteristics: defensive about his short size, resentful about his working-class place in life, very quick to anger, foolhardy with his health, stubborn and opinionated. Past Two people with strong feelings for you: Marie Larochelle: His mother has always been a massive influence on his life. His father died when Julian (the youngest of six) was young, so it was just Marie dealing with the young Julian and all of siblings. He was a very unhealthy child, so Marie knows more about the Canadian public health system than she wants to. She was also the one who taught him how to cook, how to skate, drove him to all his hockey practices, and pretended not to notice him cry when he realized he would never be big enough or good enough to play professionally. She's a formidable woman, having raised four boys and two girls to adulthood on not much money and a whole lot of grit. Julian can't imagine loving anyone in the world more than her, all five foot, 150 pounds worth of her. Marcel Dusfresne: Marcel owns a restaurant three blocks down from the Larochelle family home. Julian started working there when he was twelve, washing dishes, which is definitely illegal. Marcel is a venerable old Québécois, who only speaks in French and is an intense nationalist who wants to secede from the country of Canada. He is foul-mouthed and gruff, rarely saying anything nice about Julian (who now works as a line cook). The few kind words that he does say, though, are pretty much the best things that Julian has ever heard. Roleplay Sample: It was nice having friends with connections, even if the connections were as simple as being the night security guard at the local ice-rink. Julian was able to bribe Devin (with a six-pack of beer and an omelet, to be precise) to let him in a few nights a week, all alone. He liked to skate alone – it was some of the rare moments of quiet in his life, in the darkened rink, with only the cheap lights on. The rest of his time was spent in the cramped, hot, sweaty, loud confines of a kitchen or the cramped, hot, sweaty, loud confines of a moshpit. Here, he could just skate. It was almost too dark too see, and the the ice had a weird surreal quality to it, almost blue. He liked the way the clean ice felt underneath his skates, with each casual stride. His breath wasn't even coming fast, now, even though he had killed his wind with years of cigarettes. There was something nostalgic about skating like this, in his old jersey and skates. It made him feel zen, like a f**king bizarre form of meditation. It didn't feel like this back when he used to skate for a local club; that had been intense, fiery, a constant source of awesome pain. Julian used to get beat up like it was his job; he could remember his mom frowning at him after getting suspended from a team for two games for fighting (again). When he closed his eyes, it wasn't much darker than it had been. He sped up, racing himself on the long side of the rink, enjoying the way the air felt in his hair. It was precarious and faintly dangerous feeling, like he could preemptively tell how much it would hurt if (when) he ate it. Follow the guidelines and don't forget that there are some people in the thread already. I reccomend you read it so that it's easier to understand. You can now create a thread in the Character Development section and add any info about Julian you might want - how was his life before, more in-depth information...
